Rightmove, the UK’s leading property portal has apologised to its Facebook 13,600 Facebook fans for insensitive remarks about the riots sweeping the UK.

Yesterday, Rightmove posted the question: “Are the riots affecting where you live? What do you think will happen to house prices in those areas?”

The post produced a social media backlash with numerous posts criticising the portal.  After taking down the question, Rightmove apologised:

“Apologies all, that was a stupid message for us to send out. We are incredibly sorry if and where we caused offense .”

Adding: “We really are incredibly sorry everyone…we live in London too and are absolutely shocked and appalled by what is happening to innocent people”.

Since a low point on Tuesday morning, shares in the company have rallied nearly 10%.  It seems all publicity maybe good publicity.

The popular phrase “when in doubt, do without” should be in the most companies rule books under the ‘workplace issues’ section, a lot of times conflicts arise simply because the circumstances around the situation fuelled the issue.
Telework practices saves business a lot of stress, drama, time, and money by allowing employees to work from home thus keep everyone out of office trouble. Although illegal, discrimination in employment is sometimes experienced which turns situations very ugly, one sure way to avoid discrimination is to keep only the needed office based employees at the office and everyone else working from home.
With discrimination in the workplace certain practices have to be undertaken such as:
• Filling a charge of discrimination
• Allowing the accused to retaliate in a legalized manner
• Participating in investigation
• Opposing discriminatory practices against yourself and/or others
The discrimination workplace issue is one that is taken very seriously; it may cost a lot of time and money plus make the workplace environment unpleasant so avoid such if possible.

Teleworking is an ideal work arrangement for people who do not enjoy the group dynamic working arrangement, as people come from different walks of life some consider the whole group work plan very irritating hence they enter into careers that do not require them to work with others.
Telework presents the opportunity for an employee to maximize their level of productivity and have no face-to-face contact with colleagues and the employer thus steer clear of workplace issues.
Certain workplace issues that occur which a telecommuter avoids such as harassment on the basis of:
• Race:  Some organizations treat people of different races differently
• Religion: Issues such as religious holidays, belief and values may affect the work   environment
• Sex:  Gender tends to be a factor in the working environment
• Nationality: Backgrounds have a way of interfering with common goals
• Disability : Accommodating disabled people in the working
• Age:  There is always an issue when a young person is ranked higher than    elder members within the company.
